Applying for fieldwork support under ARIA’s Forecasting Tipping Points Research Programme

The Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) are inviting proposals to a new research funding programme focussed on Forecasting Tipping Points. Researchers seeking support from British Antarctic Survey operated logistics and facilities under this funding programme must submit fieldwork support requests which will be reviewed for operational feasibility and costed by BAS and NERC. The process to request support varies depending on the nature of fieldwork, so please carefully refer to the below bullet points to submit your request(s) through the correct channel(s):

  • Field-based research must be detailed in a Pre-Award Operational Support Planning Questionnaire (OSPQ). Applicants should populate their OSPQs with as much detail as possible to ensure that reviewers have all the information needed to conduct an operational feasibility review and calculate associated fieldwork support costs. OSPQs must be submitted by 16:00 BST on 23rd September 2024. Please ensure you contact afibas@bas.ac.uk prior to this date to request access to the OSPQ form. Following submission of OSPQs, a panel will review fieldwork requests for feasibility and will aim to provide initial feedback and provisional costings to applicants by 19th November, subject to the complexity and quantity of applications received.

  • Applicants with both field and ship-based support requirements should submit both an OSPQ and SME/ADF.

  • Applicants who are considering using the NERC Arctic Research Station in Ny-Alesund, Svalbard for work connected to this call should contact the NERC Arctic Office arctic@bas.ac.uk as soon as possible. The team will advise on timings and potential access in consultation with the Arctic Operations Manager.
