Nicolas Dettling
Biography
I am an Ocean and Ice Sheet modeller in the Polar Oceans group at the British Antarctic Survey. My research focuses on the dynamics of the ocean around Antarctica and its interactions with the cryosphere.
As part of the TerraFIRMA project, I am currently developing moving ice-shelf fronts within the UK Earth System Model. Later, through the ISOTIPIC project, I will test the impact of ice-shelf collapse on sea-level rise and local ocean circulation.
I earned my Ph.D. from the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Germany in November 2024, where I studied the parameterization of eddy-driven warm water transport toward the Antarctic continental shelves.
