Biography
I work within BAS’s AI Lab helping to develop a digital twin of the RRS Sir David Attenborough (SDA) research vessel. Sea ice provides dynamic environment that is not captured by existing navigation solutions; this project aims to produce a route planner the captain of the ship can use to aid in navigating the complex weather conditions around the Antarctic peninsula. This route planner is also aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the SDA, allowing fuel optimised routes to be planned with ease. My current focus within the project is stress testing the existing code, as well as sourcing and implementing new data products to produce a more realistic digital representation of the world the SDA navigates through.
My research background was initially in astrophysics, working on observations of supernova shock breakout at the Australian National University over the course of my PhD.
