If you are not familiar with the ways in which BAS operates within the Antarctic, you will be required to attend a number of sessions held during the Antarctic Briefing Conference.
At this week-long conference, you will be introduced to many aspects of the work of BAS, ranging from the history of UK involvement in the Antarctic, to modern-day ship and aircraft operations. There will be a number of interesting talks and slide shows as well as sessions covering subjects as diverse as fire safety and photography. Everyone will be given extensive first aid training and made aware of the health aspects of living in the Antarctic. Training will also be given, where appropriate, on oil spill response and the use of breathing apparatus.
Once this is completed, you will need to visit the stores at BAS HQ to be issued with suitable clothing for your time in the Antarctic…..
