Research on the dynamics of food webs
The dynamics of food webs, networks of who-eats-whom interactions, are being highlighted in the August report of International Innovation, an open access European journal for science dissemination (Research Media). BAS ecologist Anje Neutel tries to make sense of the multitude of feedbacks in ecological networks and identify patterns in these complex systems. In a combined interview and article, Anje and her Dutch colleague Peter de Ruiter (Wageningen University, The Netherlands) explain how they are using her approach, based on observations of biological communities, to study the structure and stability of ecosystems in changing environments.
