British Antarctic Survey has won the Gold Award at the National Building and Construction Awards 2024 for ‘The Project of the Year (£10 million to £25 million)’. 

Oliver Darke, Director of Polar Operations, Engineering and Infrastructure, said:

“Winning the Gold Award is a fantastic achievement and apt recognition of our dedicated teams’ hard work in delivering the modernisation of Rothera Research Station. The completion of this challenging project represents a significant milestone in our Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme and safeguards access to Antarctica for future generations of polar scientists. A huge thank you to our partners and all the incredible people who make polar science possible!”

NCBA Project of the Year Gold Winner award for British Antarctic Survey

This award recognises our successful runway resurfacing project at Rothera Research Station, our largest station in Antarctica. The work on the runway was completed in one of the world’s most challenging environments, in a short space of time, to advance polar science and support the future of UK research in Antarctica.
