Join the British Antarctic Survey at the Science Museum for Antarctica Live, a free dance and science festival taking place 14 – 30 August; including a special event on Wednesday 29 August. A fusion where art meets science on the ice!
Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday between 11.00 – 16.00
Find out how our scientists brave the cold to carry out research into subjects from the changing climate, the state of our polar oceans, ice and atmosphere to studying penguin poo! We will have on display an Antarctic field tent with samples of polar clothing and scientists will be on hand to give an insight into working and living in the extreme conditons of Antarctica.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to see a scale model of the RRS Sir David Attenborough one of the most advanced polar research vessels in the world, the 10,000-tonne hull of which was recently launched into the River Mersey. The new ship is a major UK Government investment in frontier science and will be operated by British Antarctic Survey when the ship enters service in 2019.
Featuring Dancing on Icebergs Premiere + Q&A with award-winning choregrapher Corey Baker, inspired by his recent trip to Antarctica and Dr Huw Griffiths, Marine Biogeographer at the British Antarctic Survey.
Wednesday 29 August: 19.30-21.20 Free bookable event. 18+ Admission is on first come, first served basis so arrive early to secure a seat.
