This book on the history of topographical survey and mapping for BAT/FID 1944-86 gives a detailed account of the progress made by surveyors of that period, working in remote and inhospitable locations in Antarctica, and of the challenges facing the cartographers back in the UK.
The 78-page, case-bound book is A4 size and includes 20 photographs, most in colour, and 13 maps. Five of the maps are large format and are contained in a pocket inside the back cover.
M. Barbara McHugo was closely involved with the mapping of BAT and FID for many years at both the Directorate of Overseas Surveys and the Overseas Surveys Division of the Ordnance Survey.
